NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — A 30-year-old man with a violent criminal history, Alex Perry, was arrested Friday night in a child predator sting operation at a park and ride in North Kingstown. According to Rhode Island State Police, Perry believed he was meeting a 13-year-old girl, but instead walked into an undercover law enforcement trap.
When officers attempted to arrest him, Perry accelerated his vehicle and struck a North Kingstown police officer. In response, multiple officers discharged their firearms. Perry fled the scene in his vehicle, leading police on a brief car chase before crashing. He then attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.
Perry now faces a long list of charges, including:
Indecent solicitation of a child
Disseminating indecent material to minors
Felony assault
Assault of a police officer
Eluding law enforcement
Resisting arrest
Driving with a suspended license
Obstruction of a police officer
Duty to stop in accident resulting in property damage
This is not Perry’s first encounter with the law. Nearly 12 years ago, he was convicted of first-degree robbery and conspiracy after holding up a pizza delivery driver at gunpoint in Johnston alongside accomplice Joshua Carey. The duo lured the victim with a fake order and robbed him using a rifle. Both men later violated their suspended sentences.
Perry’s parole violation hearing for that robbery case is scheduled for August 18.
