MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Authorities are asking the public for help identifying potential victims after a man was caught impersonating a police officer and allegedly pulling over drivers in Maryland.
Alejandro Ceferino Zunca, 67, of Montgomery Village, was pulled over on Friday, August 29, by Montgomery County Police. Body-camera footage released Wednesday shows officers stopping Zunca’s Ford van, which was marked with the words “Police” and “Policia” and equipped with red and blue lights.
In the video, when asked if he was a police officer, Zunca replies, “I was,” but failed to show any credentials confirming current or former law enforcement status.
During the arrest, police discovered:
A fake badge
A replica pistol in a holster
A uniform shirt labeled “HAPCOA POLICE”
Taser, baton, handcuffs
A Baltimore City Police badge in a tri-fold wallet
A POLICIA NATIONAL baseball cap
An anti-ballistic vest
A roll of yellow caution tape
Additional police-style equipment
Investigators believe Zunca may have impersonated an officer and pulled over drivers in multiple jurisdictions, including Montgomery County.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have interacted with Zunca to contact the Montgomery County Police Department at 240-773-5958.
