LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) — Alejandro Ramirez Reyes, a 24-year-old resident of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, was arrested after leading Texas state troopers on a high-speed chase that uncovered 11 undocumented immigrants.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said the incident occurred on Wednesday, September 3, at around 8 a.m. A trooper attempted to stop a white truck for a traffic violation, but the driver refused to pull over, sparking a pursuit.
When the truck finally stopped, several people fled the scene. Thanks to the efforts of the DPS brush team and Border Patrol, all 11 undocumented individuals were captured.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that Reyes had a criminal history, including a 2022 arrest by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for marijuana distribution. After serving his sentence, Reyes was deported last year by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Reyes now faces charges of human smuggling and evading arrest. He was taken into custody at the Webb County Jail, while the undocumented immigrants were handed over to Border Patrol for further processing.
