IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. — A man covered in mud and wearing only a swimsuit tried to outrun police in the mountains of Idaho Springs during a fraud investigation.

Police say 33-year-old Alec Bogus, of Aurora, was being questioned about a credit card fraud case on Tuesday at Indian Hot Springs when he suddenly took off — straight out of a mud bath.

Bogus, who also had a felony assault warrant out of Douglas County, ran into the mountains east of the resort, mud-covered and barefoot.

Officers from Idaho Springs Police and a Clear Creek County deputy launched a search using drones. They eventually found Bogus hiding in a shed near Montane Drive and Divide View Drive, still caked in mud.

He was taken into custody and is now facing multiple charges, including:

Assault on a peace officer

Burglary

Obstruction

Resisting arrest

As of Wednesday morning, Bogus remained in custody. The credit card fraud investigation is still ongoing, police say.
