Troy, NY — Troy Police Detectives have arrested 24-year-old Albino Zacarias-Garcia in connection with two separate assaults that occurred in late March 2025. The first incident took place on March 31, when officers responded to a report of an assault in an alleyway near 2nd Street and Harrison Street around 1 PM.
The 65-year-old victim reported being attacked with a sharp object. The suspect fled the scene, and the victim was treated at a local hospital.
After reviewing surveillance footage and gathering witness statements, detectives identified a suspect matching the description. On Wednesday, officers spotted a man matching the description near Vandeburgh Avenue and Lark Street in South Troy. When approached, Zacarias-Garcia fled into a wooded area but was quickly apprehended.
During questioning, Zacarias-Garcia confessed to being involved in both the March 31 assault and a second assault that took place on March 26 near the railroad tracks in South Troy. The second victim, a 46-year-old, was also treated at a local hospital. Police believe that a knife belonging to Zacarias-Garcia was used in both attacks.
While preparing charges, detectives observed Zacarias-Garcia attempting to bypass a leg shackle lock with a paperclip. He was then moved to the booking area at Central Station. Zacarias-Garcia was charged with attempted murder, attempted escape, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. During his interrogation, Zacarias-Garcia admitted to entering the United States illegally, prompting Homeland Security to be notified.
Zacarias-Garcia was arraigned in Troy City Court on April 3, 2025, and remanded to Rensselaer County Jail.
