BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A man has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing another man outside a North Side gas station, according to an arrest affidavit.
Albert James Stevens, 32, is accused in the death of 35-year-old Kyle Wayne Parnell. Officers responded around 8 p.m. on Dec. 16 to a 7-Eleven on the 4100 block of Vance Jackson Road, where they found Parnell lying on the ground with two gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead the same night. The Bexar County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.
Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing a vehicle speeding away. One witness described the driver as a man with a long beard wearing a beanie. Surveillance footage from the convenience store showed a gray Toyota Tundra at the gas pumps, with a cloud of smoke emerging from the passenger side door consistent with gunfire.
Investigators linked the vehicle to a Dec. 14 reported theft of a similar Tundra. Flock camera footage showed the stolen truck traveling near Universal City the next morning with a bullet hole in the passenger window.
Officers with the Universal City Police Department located the Tundra and arrested Stevens, who had a firearm on him and appeared to have blood on his clothing and the truck’s passenger seat. Two spent shell casings were recovered inside the vehicle.
According to the affidavit, Parnell’s girlfriend stated that Stevens admitted to her that he fired at Parnell, claiming he did not think any shots hit him. She said the shooting stemmed from a dispute inside the truck, during which Parnell allegedly hit Stevens and reached for his gun. Officers also noted bruising on Stevens’ left eye, though the timing of the injury could not be confirmed.
Stevens was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on charges of murder, unlawful carrying of a weapon, and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
