CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Albert Sergio Jr., assistant fire marshal and code administrator for Cheltenham Township, has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman at knifepoint, then evading police for more than 12 hours before being captured over the weekend.
Prosecutors say the incident occurred on Friday, April 25, when Sergio allegedly attacked a woman he knew, prompting her to flee and seek help. After the assault, Sergio reportedly broke into a home on East Chestnut Street around 11 p.m. by smashing a window. The occupant confronted him, and he ran off. Witnesses later identified him as the intruder.
Sergio then went on the run, hiding in a wooded area near a Bucks County neighborhood. He was finally arrested early Saturday morning, April 26, after police used K9 units to locate him in the woods of Hilltown Township.
He is currently being held in Montgomery County Prison’s medical block. During a hearing on Monday, April 28, prosecutors described him as a threat to public safety and opposed reducing his bail. The judge maintained bail at over $100,000.
Sergio, who has worked for Cheltenham Township for 11 years, is listed on the township’s website as the Code Administrator, responsible for inspecting nearly 50 buildings each month. Township officials declined to comment on his employment status following the arrest.
The case remains under investigation, and the Souderton Borough Police Department has also declined to comment, citing a directive from the mayor.
