Albert Fernández Arrested for $38K Theft from Longtime Friend

Ex-con with gang ties accused of robbing Miami Gardens host

Albert Fernández, a 39-year-old Cuban national with a long criminal record and alleged ties to the Latin Kings gang, has been arrested in Miami-Dade after reportedly stealing $38,000 worth of belongings from a friend who had offered him shelter after his prison release.

Fernández, who has over 20 prior convictions—including for domestic violence, assault on a pregnant woman, and a high-profile police chase in Opa-locka—was released from prison on February 17. Just weeks later, on March 10, police say he betrayed the trust of a 15-year friend who had taken him in, stealing a firearm, jewelry, clothing, and footwear from the victim’s home in Miami Gardens.

Surveillance footage from the victim’s home captured the theft, and text messages sent by Fernández expressing remorse further implicated him. He was also found to be in illegal possession of a firearm, which worsens his legal situation.

He was arrested and charged with robbery and grand theft, then booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. During a court hearing, bail was denied due to his extensive criminal history and six existing probation violations.

Authorities say Fernández has been involved in numerous serious offenses across Miami-Dade over the past decade, with arrests dating back to age 25. His latest arrest underscores ongoing concerns about repeat offenders reentering communities without adequate oversight.
