On Wednesday night, Alappuzha Excise Commission officials arrested Christina alias Tasleema Sultan from Chennai and Feroze from Mannancherry for carrying Rs 1.5 crore worth of hybrid ganja. The two were transporting the drugs in a car, which was also seized by the police during the operation.
Christina, who is reportedly a script translator in the film industry, was revealed to have connections with high-profile figures in the entertainment world. Alappuzha’s Deputy Excise Commissioner disclosed that she had testified to using drugs with well-known Malayalam actors such as Shine Tom Chako and Sreenath Bhasi, claiming she had also distributed narcotics to them on a regular basis.
During her interrogation, Christina allegedly named other actors involved in drug use, with authorities now reviewing the evidence. Her testimony adds another layer to the ongoing investigation into drug trafficking within the Kerala film industry.
The recent arrest highlights the ongoing surge in drug trafficking in Kerala, where multiple cases have been reported in recent weeks. On March 29, Payyanur police arrested three individuals in possession of MDMA, while on March 14, Kalamassery police seized 2 kg of cannabis from a college hostel in what was described as a ‘Holi drug racket’. Three final-year students were arrested and suspended from their college in the crackdown.
These cases underscore the escalating issue of drug abuse and trafficking in Kerala, with authorities working to dismantle these networks and curb their spread.
