In a major crackdown, Delhi Police arrested a 20-year-old man and a juvenile for their involvement in mobile phone thefts. The police recovered four stolen mobile phones and several illegal weapons from their possession. The accused, Alam, a resident of Delhi’s Mayur Vihar, and his accomplice, the juvenile, were nabbed at the Jhundpura border.

Station House Officer Amit Kumar Maan reported that one of the stolen phones, a Redmi Note, had already been reported stolen at the Phase 1 Police Station. In addition to the phones, police recovered an illegal pistol, cartridges, a knife, and an orange-colored scooter used by the suspects.

During initial interrogation, Alam revealed that he and the juvenile would use the scooter to snatch mobile phones from pedestrians. When people resisted, they would threaten them with weapons, steal their phones, and flee the scene.

In a separate investigation, police arrested three individuals, Dinesh Chauhan (38), Wasim Rizvi (35), and Aaqib (35), who were suspected of Eco car theft. Police recovered two stolen Eco cars, the engine of a third car, and various car parts from their possession.

Sumit Shukla, Additional Deputy Commissioner, confirmed that the arrest uncovered a major car theft racket, in which the accused would steal Eco cars, alter their number plates and chassis numbers, and sell them using fake documents. One of the recovered vehicles was identified as stolen from Sector 58, while the other, which was filled with car spare parts, was stolen from Sector 66.

According to police, Wasim Rizvi worked as a scrap dealer and would replace internal parts of the stolen cars before selling them. The stolen cars were taken from various locations across Delhi-NCR, and the suspects either sold the vehicles whole or scrapped them for parts.

Further investigations are underway as the police work to uncover more members of the racket.
