In a major development, Maitree Vihar Police on Sunday arrested Ajit Das, the prime accused in a late-night robbery that occurred near Sainik School on October 17. Two of his accomplices, Deepak Kumar Nayak alias Dipu and Subashis Jena, had been arrested earlier on October 18.

According to the police report, victim Kruti Bibhab Patra (21) filed a written complaint stating that around 1:30 am on October 17, he and a friend were returning home from a movie when three men on a motorcycle intercepted them near the U-turn between Apollo Hospital and Sainik School.

The assailants allegedly assaulted the duo and stole Patra’s mobile phone and Rs 1,000, as well as his friend’s wristwatch, wallet containing PAN and Aadhaar cards, ATM card, and Rs 300 in cash.

After the attack, the trio fled the scene. The victim immediately alerted a PCR van, prompting police to launch an investigation. During the probe, it was discovered that Ajit Das used the stolen phone to transfer Rs 2,000 via a UPI app from the complainant’s account.

Following the arrests of Deepak and Subashis, police tracked down Ajit Das in the Maitree Vihar area and apprehended him on Sunday. Upon interrogation, Ajit confessed to the crime, and police recovered stolen phones and other incriminating items from his possession.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ajit Das has a prior criminal record, with previous theft cases registered at Nayapalli and Maitree Vihar police stations.

Police have assured that strict legal action will follow and urged citizens to remain vigilant during late-night commutes.
