In a major crackdown on an international drug smuggling network, the Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of Punjab Police arrested three operatives linked to Canada-based drug kingpin Sonu. Authorities also seized 2.5 kilograms of heroin and Rs42 lakh in drug money during the operation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Ajaypal Singh, resident of Sarai Amanat Khan in Tarn Taran
Hardeep Singh, from Bhagatanwala, Amritsar
Milap Singh, hailing from Alipur, Tarn Taran
According to Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the CI wing had credible intelligence regarding Sonu’s network actively operating in Punjab through his local associates.
Ajaypal and Hardeep were reportedly responsible for retrieving a recent consignment of heroin, while Milap assisted in the transportation and distribution of drugs. In addition to narcotics and cash, the police also confiscated a motorcycle and a car used in the smuggling operation.
The arrests represent a significant breakthrough in the effort to dismantle cross-border drug syndicates linked to Canada and Pakistan. Investigations are ongoing to identify further links and trace the full extent of Sonu’s operations in India.
