Police in Maharashtra’s Palghar district have arrested two men for allegedly attempting to break into a nationalised bank’s ATM in the Virar area on July 14. Fortunately, no cash was stolen during the failed robbery, officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to a police statement, the suspects broke into the ATM booth during the early hours and tried to smash the cash dispensing machine, but ultimately fled the scene empty-handed after failing to access the money.
The bank later reported the damage, prompting a police investigation. Reviewing CCTV footage and acting on technical and intelligence inputs, authorities identified and apprehended the accused — Ajay Vijay Yadav (45) from Virar and Bharat Gajanan Sanke (37) from Ulhasnagar in neighbouring Thane district.
The suspects were arrested on July 17, and a variety of tools used in the attempted theft were recovered. These included a grinder machine, gas blow torch, grinder cutter blade, hand gloves, mask, bag, and raincoat, the police added.
Investigations are ongoing to determine if the duo is connected to other such incidents in the region.
