In a significant crackdown on the illegal drug trade in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the city police have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against Ajay Wahul alias Ajay Thakur, a notorious criminal, and other members of his gang. Rani, Thakur’s wife, has also been named as an accused in the case.
This move is part of an ongoing effort by Commissioner of Police Pravin Pawar to curb the growing drug trade within the city. The police action follows a raid conducted on February 3 at Thakur’s residence in the Satara area of the city. Acting on a tip-off, Inspector Geeta Bagwade led a team of officers, along with complainant Amol Mhaske, to raid the house.
During the raid, the police team recovered a significant quantity of drugs, including 1.4 kg of ganja, 160 alprazolam tablets, and 10.63 grams of mephedrone. The drugs, along with two mobile phones, were valued at over Rs1 lakh. This seizure marks a major step in the city’s ongoing battle against drug-related crimes.
The police are continuing their investigation into Thakur’s gang and their involvement in the local drug trade. The use of MCOCA in this case highlights the seriousness of the authorities’ approach in dealing with organized crime and drug peddling.
