A 30-year-old Gurgaon resident, Vaideshwaran, sustained critical injuries in a hit-and-run incident in southwest Delhi’s Bindapur on Saturday. The Delhi Police arrested Ajay Singh, the driver of the car involved in the collision, following a swift investigation aided by CCTV footage.
The accident occurred near Uttam Nagar West Metro Station, where Vaideshwaran, who worked for a private company, was riding his scooter. The car, registered to a private transport firm, struck him from behind, violently flinging him into the air. Moments later, his scooter caught fire.
CCTV footage revealed disturbing visuals—after the impact, the occupants of the car briefly stopped, detached the burning scooter from their vehicle, and then fled, leaving the injured man unattended. Alert passersby rushed Vaideshwaran to the hospital, but due to severe head trauma, he was later transferred to a higher medical facility. His condition remains critical.
The Bindapur Police traced the vehicle using surveillance cameras and arrested Ajay Singh, a native of Madhepura district in Bihar. He has been booked under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to rash driving, causing grievous hurt, and fleeing the scene of an accident.
In an unrelated incident earlier that same morning, Satrudhan (25), a worker at Safal Dairy, died when his motorcycle was hit by a truck on the Mangolpuri Flyover in northwest Delhi. Emergency services declared him brought dead at the hospital.
Both cases underline the rising concerns over road safety and reckless driving in the capital.
