In a swift operation, the Porvorim Police arrested Ajay Ranpariya, a 44-year-old man from Gujarat, in connection with a chain-snatching case that occurred just three days prior in the PDA Colony area.

The incident was reported by a local woman who stated that on July 24 at around 5:30 PM, an unknown man, approximately 45 years old with a light complexion and mustache, arrived at her residence on a grey Activa scooter. Dressed in a sky-blue shirt and black helmet, he posed as a courier delivery agent, claiming he had a parcel addressed to “Harihar.”

As the woman approached her gate, the accused suddenly snatched her gold chain weighing 20 grams — worth Rs1.8 lakh — and fled from the scene.

Following a prompt investigation led by PSI Arun Shirodkar, police identified the suspect as Ranpariya Ajay Hasmukhbhai, son of Hasmukhbhai Ranpariya, residing at Samruddhi Complex, Vijalpore, Navsari, in Gujarat. He was arrested on July 27 at 3:32 PM.

Police have confirmed that further investigation is ongoing and are probing whether the accused is linked to similar crimes in the region.
