In a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, the City Crime Branch of Ahmedabad arrested two persons with 525 grams of mephedrone (MD drug) near the AMTS bus stop under the foot overbridge at the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway on Sunday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ajay Prajapati (41) and Anandi Damor (41), both residents of Ratlam district in Madhya Pradesh.
Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch launched a special raid, recovering mephedrone worth Rs52.5 lakh in the illegal drug market. Along with the drugs, police also seized:
Two mobile phones worth Rs10,000
Cash
A PAN card
An Aadhaar card
According to a crime branch release, the preliminary probe has revealed that a man named Shahrukh, residing in Vatva, Ahmedabad, is suspected to be the key handler in the drug supply chain.
Shahrukh allegedly sourced the drugs from a person named Kalu based in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh. The narcotics were sent via trains to Vadodara and later moved through private vehicles to Ahmedabad, with deliveries typically arranged near the expressway area where the arrests were made.
The crime branch is now intensifying efforts to trace Shahrukh and Kalu, and dismantle the wider interstate drug network operating between Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
