Rae Bareli police have arrested Ankush Yadav and Gaurav alias Ajit in connection with the murder of their 24-year-old friend, Ajay Kumar Saroj, whose body was discovered in the Sharda canal near Kucharia village on Friday evening.
According to SP Rae Bareli Ravi Kumar, the investigation relied on CCTV footage and surveillance inputs, leading to the arrest of the accused, both in their early 30s and longtime friends of the victim. Notably, Ajay was partially blind, while Ankush has been blind since childhood.
Police reports indicate the motive stemmed from a personal dispute. Ajay had allegedly informed Gaurav’s father about his romantic relationship with a girl, angering Gaurav. Ankush, believing Ajay had instigated his girlfriend against him, conspired with Gaurav to eliminate Ajay.
On February 21, the accused lured Ajay under the pretext of liquor, took him to a secluded spot near Kucharia village, and assaulted him with an iron rod, resulting in his death. They subsequently dumped his body in the canal.
The case is under further investigation as police examine the role of both accused and collect additional evidence.
