In a major breakthrough, Jaipur Police arrested Ajay Kumar Nat, a resident of Sewar, Bharatpur, currently residing in Thane, Mumbai, for purchasing stolen gems and gold jewelry worth Rs 75 lakh from dacoits at a throwaway price of Rs 1 lakh.
A team from SMS Hospital Police Station raided Ajay’s flat in Mumbai and recovered jewels worth Rs 70 lakh. The police said the accused deceived the gang of dacoits by claiming the gems were fake and the gold was only 16 carat, allowing him to buy them at a fraction of their actual value.
This development came after four criminals — Dharmveer alias Rahul Jat, Rahul Chaudhary, Arvind Jatav alias Neta, and Aniket alias Lala — were previously arrested in the June 3rd dacoity. Their interrogation revealed Ajay’s identity as the buyer of the stolen valuables.
The robbery victim, Brijmohan Gandhi of Saket Colony, Adarsh Nagar, filed a complaint stating that while returning from his office in Ratnasagar, Johari Bazaar, he stopped at a red light at Prithviraj T-point. Two bike-borne men smashed the car window and fled with a cloth bag containing jewels worth Rs 75 lakh.
The police have also seized a Honda City car, a revolver, and two bikes used in the robbery. However, the kingpin Santosh Singh Chauhan and Vishal alias Bissu are still at large. Authorities are searching for them along with two rings and a scooter used in the crime.
DCP (East) Tejaswani Gautam confirmed the arrest and added that efforts are underway to nab the remaining suspects.
