Deoghar, Jharkhand – In a major crackdown on cyber fraud, the Deoghar district police arrested three individuals on Thursday for posing as customer care agents and deceiving people through online platforms.
The accused — Ajay Kumar Mandal, Saud Ansari, and Ajit Kumar Das — were nabbed during a raid near Ghorparas village. According to authorities, they were operating a fraudulent scheme by uploading fake customer care numbers for platforms like PhonePe and Paytm, which misled users seeking genuine help.
Their scams were linked to deceptive offers involving the PM-Kisan Yojana and SBI credit card unblocking services. Victims were tricked into clicking malicious links and sharing sensitive data.
Police recovered four mobile phones and six SIM cards used in the fraud. The devices played a crucial role in executing the scams and misleading victims.
Authorities emphasized that the operation marks a strong step toward tackling digital deception in the region and warned citizens to verify contact numbers from official sources only.
