Aishmuqam: In a major breakthrough, Aishmuqam police have arrested two individuals who had been evading arrest for over a decade. The arrests conclude a 10-year-long pursuit aided by sustained intelligence gathering and technical surveillance.

The accused have been identified as Arif Ahmad Sheikh, son of Suleiman Sheikh from Tagdi Nazirpora, Calcutta, wanted in FIR No. 39/2013 under Sections 454 and 380 IPC, and Mohammad Shameem Sheikh, son of Minto Sheikh from Kala Chowk, Tagdi Nazirpora, Calcutta, wanted in FIR No. 47/2013 under the same sections.

Both had been involved in separate burglary and theft cases registered in 2013 and had been absconding since 2014. Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the police traced the duo to their hideouts through a coordinated operation combining human intelligence and technical surveillance.

A senior police officer highlighted that these arrests demonstrate the department’s commitment to bringing long-pending offenders to justice. “No matter how long it takes, the law will eventually catch up with those who try to escape it,” the officer said. Further legal proceedings are underway.

Authorities have assured the public that efforts will continue to trace and apprehend other absconders involved in unresolved criminal cases across the district.
