The Air Customs unit at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow, detained two passengers on Monday for carrying 2.5 kg of hydroponic cannabis worth approximately Rs 2.47 crore.
The arrested individuals were identified as Abid Memon and Aamir Khan. They were intercepted after arriving on a flight from Bangkok at 10 pm.
Authorities discovered the contraband concealed in eight plastic-wrapped packets inside their luggage. X-ray screening revealed green, flowering, and fruiting tops, prompting a detailed inspection. The seized narcotics have an estimated market value of Rs 2.49 crore, according to a statement from the Lucknow Customs Preventive Commissionerate.
Both accused were arrested under Section 43 of the NDPS Act, 1985, and remanded to judicial custody. Officials stated that further investigation is ongoing to uncover the broader smuggling network behind the illegal import.
This seizure highlights the proactive efforts of Lucknow customs in intercepting high-value narcotics at the airport.
