In a significant narcotics bust, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad arrested Shoaib Mohmand Dhakir Mohmand Syed on February 4 for trafficking 181 grams of mephedrone, a powerful synthetic stimulant. The drugs, which have an estimated street value of Rs18.19 lakh, were found during a raid near the Royal Enfield showroom in Ranip, Ahmedabad.
The operation was carried out after receiving a tip-off that a person dealing in MD drugs would be present in a Hyundai Verna car near a restaurant in the city. Acting on this information, the SOG team, accompanied by independent witnesses, raided the location and intercepted the vehicle.
A search of the car and Syed’s belongings led to the discovery of a transparent plastic packet containing a white powder. After questioning, Syed could not provide any legal documentation for possessing the substance. The powder was later confirmed as mephedrone through a chemical test.
Along with the drugs, the authorities seized six mobile phones and the Hyundai Verna used for transporting the narcotics. The total weight of the mephedrone was confirmed to be 181 grams. Syed allegedly admitted to delivering the drugs to an associate, Mohsin, in exchange for a Rs10,000 commission.
The police documented the entire operation, including videography and weighing of the seized drugs. As per legal procedures, the substance has been sent for forensic analysis, and Syed has been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Investigations are ongoing to track down the supplier and other individuals involved in this drug trafficking network.
