The Danilimda police in Ahmedabad have successfully seized a large quantity of codeine phosphate-based cough syrup and arrested an alleged drug peddler, Bakar Ali Imdat Ali Syed, in connection with the illegal sale of the contraband. The operation took place near Dhor Bazar Char Rasta, Madhubhai Chali, after authorities received a tip-off regarding the accused’s activities in the area.
During the raid, police confiscated 285 bottles of cough syrup, valued at Rs52,725, and a black Activa scooter, worth Rs25,000. The total value of the seized items amounted to ₹77,725. The seized cough syrup, which contains a controlled substance, is often misused as a recreational drug and is prohibited under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The arrested individual, Bakar Ali Syed, a resident of Jamalpur, has been charged under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Meanwhile, Naved Khan, an alleged associate of Syed, is still at large. Police have launched a search operation to locate Khan and bring him to justice.
Following the raid, the case has been transferred to the Narol police station for further investigation, where authorities are working to trace the supply chain of the illegal drug trade and uncover additional suspects involved in the distribution of the contraband.
