Ahmedabad cybercrime authorities have arrested Alfaz Memon, marking the seventh arrest in a major cyberslavery racket. Memon, a native of Anand residing in Ahmedabad, recruited Gujarat youths for deployment in Myanmar via Thailand.
Last month, Surat police had raided a flat in Punjab and arrested two individuals, including the HR manager of a Chinese cyber-cheating company. Following media reports, a Surat family alerted their son, who had just arrived in Thailand, prompting his immediate return. Along with him, two youths from Anand also returned to Gujarat, after being sent abroad by Memon via an Ahmedabad-Bangkok flight.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cybercrime) Bishakha Jain stated, “During interrogation, we learned that Memon had sent these youths abroad to work in cyberfraud operations targeting affluent professionals such as doctors, CAs, and businessmen. Memon earned hefty commissions for sending them to Myanmar and supervised their operations remotely.”
Memon himself had previously worked as a cyberslave for five months in KK Park-3, Myanmar, after being sent by a Malaysian agent named Frendi. He was provided with five iPhones and a laptop to identify potential victims and generate significant income through online scams.
Earlier arrests in this case included individuals from Uttarakhand, Rajkot, Tapi, Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, and Anand districts. Police continue their investigation to identify additional members of the cyberfraud network and rescue any remaining victims.
