In a significant crackdown, the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) raided a fraudulent call centre at Sepan Villa Society, Changodar, in Ahmedabad district, and arrested five people involved in a scam that targeted foreign nationals. The main accused, Sanjayji Thakor (25), an operator of the call centre, was apprehended along with Dilipkumar Thakor, Laxmanji Thakor, Vipulji Thakor, and Rahulji Thakor, all hailing from Mehsana district.

The fraudulent call centre lured individuals by offering payday loans, and also posed as share brokers to deceive people into making investments with promises of high returns. During the raid, SMC officials seized goods worth Rs 31.66 lakh, including Rs 55,000 in cash, 19 mobile phones, four chargers, and a car valued at Rs 30 lakh.

The investigation is ongoing to determine whether Sanjayji Thakor had operated other fraudulent call centres in the region. The Changodar police have taken the arrested individuals into custody for further legal action.
