Waukegan, IL – A Waukegan man is behind bars after an undercover operation revealed he was selling cocaine near an elementary school, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Group (SIG).
The suspect, 41-year-old Agustin Arias, Jr., was taken into custody on Thursday, July 17, 2025, following a traffic stop that concluded a weeks-long investigation. The task force, funded by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program, had been monitoring Arias after receiving intelligence about his alleged drug-dealing activities.
During the operation, detectives made multiple purchases of cocaine from Arias — all within 500 feet of an elementary school.
After reviewing the evidence, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Arias with three felony counts of delivery of a controlled substance within a school zone. Prosecutors also filed a petition to hold him in custody until trial. The court granted the request during a detention hearing.
Arias is currently being held at the Lake County Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 6, 2025, at 1:30 PM in Courtroom T020.
