The Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police’s Crime Branch Unit (Zone II) recently arrested a 45-year-old African national, identified as David Oniyaka Chidalo, for possessing a large quantity of mephedrone (MD) valued at over Rs 31.20 lakh in the international market.

The arrest took place on Sunday at around midnight when a night patrolling unit led by Police Inspector Shahuraj Ranaware spotted the suspect loitering suspiciously near Agarwal Complex in the Achole area of Nallasopara. Upon noticing the police jeep, Chidalo attempted to flee, triggering a brief chase before he was apprehended by the officers.

During a search, the police discovered that Chidalo was carrying 260 grams of mephedrone, a powerful narcotic drug. The drugs were seized, and Chidalo was arrested under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Authorities are now investigating the source of the drugs and are working to determine whether Chidalo has any connections to local or international drug trafficking networks. Additionally, the police are verifying the legality of his stay in India.

Chidalo has been handed over to the Achole Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
