Aerodrome police have busted a burglary gang and arrested three habitual thieves after identifying one culprit, Sandeep alias Sanju, limping in CCTV footage, an official said on Monday.

The police recovered stolen valuables worth around Rs 10 lakh from the accused. The gang targeted vacant houses, conducting reconnaissance before breaking into homes left locked for long periods.

DCP (Zone-1) Vinod Kumar Meena told reporters that the arrested thieves are Sandeep of Hatod, Bhupendra alias Bhura, and Sunil of Chhatripura. Sandeep has 26 registered cases, Bhupendra 11, and Sunil 3 cases against them.

Police scrutinized hundreds of CCTV cameras and identified Sandeep based on his distinct gait. Upon arrest, he confessed to stealing from vacant houses in Nariman Point and Scheme No. 51 and revealed the identities of his accomplices.

Additional DCP Alok Kumar Sharma said the gang led lavish lives fueled by the proceeds of their crimes. The stolen items recovered included gold and silver jewelry such as a mangalsutra, chains, pendants, rings, idols, coins, anklets, earrings, bracelets, and more, valued at Rs 10 lakh.

Authorities are also investigating buyers of the stolen goods. The accused are suspected to be involved in other burglaries and are being further interrogated.
