Vanchiyoor Police on Thursday arrested Advocate Beyline Das, 48, in connection with the brutal assault of his junior advocate, Syamili J V, 26. The incident occurred during a discussion regarding her expulsion from his office, triggering widespread outrage within the legal community.
Das, a native of Ambalathara, had gone absconding immediately after the assault, switching off his phone to avoid surveillance. However, his device briefly turned on in Poonthura on Tuesday and later in Kazhakkoottam on Thursday morning, confirming his presence within the city. This enabled police to intensify their search.
By evening, the Vanchiyoor Station House Officer received a tip-off that Das was traveling in a red car near Station Kadavu. The control room quickly alerted patrolling teams, and officers from Dansaf and Thumba Police coordinated to intercept the vehicle. The car was stopped at Station Kadavu, where Vanchiyoor Police took him into custody.
Investigators later learned that Das had been staying at a friend’s home in Pallithura and had also visited his ancestral house in Poonthura while evading arrest. Notably, he had filed an anticipatory bail application scheduled for court hearing the next day.
Police say further action will follow as the investigation into the assault continues.
