Two Suspects Arrested in Marin County Medical Office Burglary Linked to Nationwide Theft Ring
MILL VALLEY, CA — Detectives with the Marin County Sheriff’s Office arrested Adrian L. Thompson, 43, and Riana L. Buffin, 28, both of Oakland, in connection with a December burglary at a medical office where several victims’ bankcards were stolen and used fraudulently.
The incident occurred when a physical therapist discovered a suspicious man in her private office. Although he claimed to be seeking treatment for a knee injury, she informed him that she did not treat such cases. After the man left, several clinicians found their wallets had been rifled through and bankcards missing.
Fraudulent purchases were made shortly after the thefts.
Investigators identified Adrian Thompson as the suspect. He has a criminal record including eight prior burglary convictions and is also wanted on an outstanding warrant in Washington state. Authorities say he is a known member of a traveling burglary ring involved in similar crimes across Texas, South Carolina, and Washington.
Thompson and Buffin were located in Oakland and arrested on April 30. Thompson was booked into Marin County Jail for burglary and his outstanding warrant. Buffin, also booked into county jail, is classified as a fugitive from justice in Washington state and has previous arrests for burglary and grand theft.
Authorities say the group targeted victims at their workplaces, focusing on unattended wallets and purses.
