Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson was arrested early Friday morning in Minnesota on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, just hours after attending the Vikings’ draft party as a special guest.
According to TMZ, the 40-year-old was pulled over around 3:20 a.m. while driving an Audi Q5 at 83 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. A breathalyzer test administered by police showed Peterson had a blood alcohol content of .14, well over the state’s legal limit of .08.
Peterson was booked on a 4th-degree DWI charge and taken to Hennepin County Jail, where he was released on $4,000 bond around 7:31 a.m. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 9, according to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert.
This is not Peterson’s first legal run-in. In 2014, he was charged with felony child abuse after disciplining his son with a switch. He pleaded no contest to a lesser charge, received probation, and was suspended by the NFL. In 2022, he was arrested for domestic violence at LAX, but the charge was dropped when his wife declined to press charges.
Peterson, a former Vikings star and one of the most decorated running backs in NFL history, now finds himself facing renewed legal scrutiny following this latest incident.
