Addison Brown Charged with Attempted Murder in Mattress Fire

Kentucky woman accused of setting sister’s bed ablaze

by Amelia Crawford

Addison Brown, 22, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly setting her sister’s mattress on fire while she was asleep in their Kentucky home.

The incident happened on June 1, when Brown’s sister woke up to find her bed engulfed in flames. She quickly rolled out of bed and used a pillow to put out the fire before emergency services arrived. At the time, four other people—including a minor—were inside the duplex where the fire occurred.

Brown fled the scene before investigators arrived. During their inquiry, police uncovered messages from Brown admitting she intentionally set the fire to kill her sister.

On September 12, Brown was arrested and charged with attempted murder (domestic violence), arson, and four counts of wanton endangerment.

In Kentucky, first-degree arson is a felony punishable by 20 to 50 years in prison. Attempted murder carries 10 to 20 years, while wanton endangerment can result in up to five years or fines.

A judge set Brown’s bond at $250,000. She is scheduled for a court appearance on September 22.
