In a major breakthrough in the fake birth certificate scam uncovered in Shendursani village of Arni taluka, Yavatmal police have arrested a youth from Bihar after tracing the cyber trail of the fraud.
The accused, Adarsh Kumar Ashok Dubey (20), a resident of Panditpur village in Kishunpur taluka of Saran district, Bihar, was apprehended following a detailed technical investigation. Preliminary findings revealed that the fraudulent entries were not generated locally but were executed digitally from another state using cyber channels.
After the scam surfaced, authorities constituted a technical analysis team and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to trace the origin of the fake registrations. Digital evidence led investigators to Dubey, who was produced before the court on Friday. Based on arguments presented by SDPO Dinesh Baisane, the court remanded the accused to police custody until January 12.
According to the complaint lodged at Yavatmal police station, the Civil Registration System (CRS) login credentials of Shendursani Gram Panchayat were misused between September and November 2025. During this period, 27,397 birth registrations and seven death entries were fraudulently recorded, despite the village having a population of only around 1,400 residents.
Taking serious note of the irregularities, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the formation of an SIT to probe the matter thoroughly. Acting on the directions of Superintendent of Police Kumar Chit, SDPO Baisane conducted an in-depth investigation that ultimately led to the arrest.
Further investigations are underway to determine whether more individuals or officials were involved in the large-scale cyber-enabled fraud.
