KINGSTON — Adam Shulist, 31, has been arrested following an investigation into an alleged $586,000 fraud connected to his contracting business, Oakwood Group Inc.
The probe began in November 2025 after multiple complaints were filed against Shulist for making false claims to customers. Investigators allege that he collected payments for materials, labor, and permits that were never used for the intended projects.
Authorities say Shulist kept the money for personal projects and failed to pay subcontractors for completed work. Additionally, investigators determined that bank drafts were double-deposited into his accounts, allegedly to fraudulently obtain credit.
Shulist was arrested on Tuesday and now faces multiple charges of fraud and theft. Officials noted that none of the funds obtained through these alleged schemes have been returned to the victims.
