EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) — A man is in custody after Madisonville Police discovered multiple stolen firearms during a routine traffic stop Thursday evening.
According to the police report, officers stopped a vehicle just before 8:30 p.m. after it was seen swerving between the center line and the fog line. The driver, identified as Adam Kloeppel, was in a rental car and stated he was heading to Texas.
When asked about firearms in the vehicle, Kloeppel admitted there were guns in the trunk but refused permission for officers to search it. A K-9 unit was called to the scene and alerted positively to the vehicle.
Upon searching the trunk, officers found two handguns in a brown bag, stored inside cases. After running the serial numbers, dispatch confirmed both firearms were reported stolen out of Georgia.
Kloeppel claimed he had purchased the guns from a pawn shop in Ohio, where he resides. Madisonville Police confiscated and impounded the weapons.
He was taken into custody and booked into the Hopkins County Jail. Kloeppel now faces the following charges:
