HUGO, Okla. (KXII) – A Hugo man has been arrested for possessing child sexual abuse material following an investigation led by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI).
The OSBI reported that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) submitted a cybertip to their Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit last month. Special agents launched a detailed investigation, which led them to identify the suspect as Adam Joseph Johns, 41, an employee at a local elephant sanctuary.
On Thursday, OSBI agents and the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the sanctuary. Johns was found on the premises and interviewed by authorities. During questioning, he admitted to both downloading and uploading child sexual abuse material.
He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Choctaw County Jail on charges of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material and Violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.
Authorities are continuing their investigation.
