NAGPUR: In a tragic and shocking incident, actor Priyanshu, also known by his full name Babu Ravi Singh Chhetri, was allegedly murdered by a friend during a drunken altercation in Nagpur’s Jaripatka area. The 21-year-old actor rose to fame for his performance in the 2022 Hindi film Jhund alongside Amitabh Bachchan.
The accused, Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu (20), has been arrested in connection with the crime.
According to police sources, Priyanshu and Dhruv were known to frequently drink together. On the night of the incident—Tuesday, after midnight—the two went to an abandoned house in Jaripatka for a drinking session.
“An argument broke out during the session. Priyanshu allegedly threatened Sahu and then fell asleep,” a police official told PTI. Fearing for his safety, Sahu tied Priyanshu with wires and then attacked him with a sharp weapon, leaving him half-naked and severely injured.
Locals discovered Priyanshu in a critical condition and rushed him to Mayo Hospital, where he was declared dead during treatment.
Priyanshu had received critical acclaim for his supporting role in Jhund, a biographical sports drama directed by Nagraj Manjule, based on the life of Vijay Barse, the founder of Slum Soccer. The film featured Amitabh Bachchan in the lead and spotlighted the struggles and triumphs of underprivileged youth.
The murder has left the film community and fans in shock. An investigation is ongoing.
