The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two government officials in separate bribery cases in Maharashtra.
In the first case, a 37-year-old supervisor working with the Security Guards Board for Brihanmumbai and Thane districts was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000 from a security guard. The bribe was demanded in exchange for assigning the guard a preferred ‘first shift’ posting at a civic body-run school in Thane city, officials said.
In another case, the ACB arrested M.M. Shaikh, the 37-year-old up-sarpanch of Khardi Grampanchayat, Shahpur, for allegedly demanding a Rs 30,000 bribe to transfer property documents into the complainant’s name. The complainant had purchased a house in Khardi and refused to pay the bribe, instead approaching the ACB office in Thane on May 13 with a written complaint.
Both arrests highlight the ACB’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on corruption within local government bodies.
