MIAMI — Abraham Fitzwilson, 26, of San Diego, and Raees Durham, 28, of Los Angeles, were arrested on separate cannabis trafficking charges at Miami International Airport after authorities discovered large quantities of marijuana and hashish in their luggage.
According to arrest reports, Fitzwilson was detained Sunday night before boarding a flight to São Paulo, Brazil. A K-9 unit from U.S. Customs and Border Protection alerted officers to his checked bag. Inside, agents reportedly found 10 sealed bricks containing a brown tar-like substance that tested positive for hashish, weighing more than 26 pounds.
Fitzwilson told investigators he had been paid to travel from San Diego to Los Angeles, where he stayed overnight in a hotel. He claimed an Uber driver picked him up with the checked bag already in the vehicle. He said he was instructed to deliver the bag to someone in Brazil but did not know the person’s name and claimed he was unaware of its contents.
In a separate incident Monday, Durham was stopped before boarding a flight to London after his suitcase was flagged for inspection. Authorities reported finding two vacuum-sealed packages containing 30 bags of a green leafy substance. The material tested positive for marijuana/hashish/THC and weighed approximately 36 pounds.
According to the arrest report, Durham told investigators he expected to be paid between $6,000 and $7,000 to transport the suitcase.
Both men were taken into custody and booked into jail on cannabis trafficking charges.
