In a joint operation, Kasaragod district police and Mangaluru city police arrested Abhishek Shetty, a former school bus driver from Surathkal, on charges of murdering Mohammed Sharif, a 59-year-old autorickshaw driver, and dumping his body in a well in Kunjathur near Manjeshwar, Kerala.
The case came to light on April 11, but the murder occurred earlier following a road rage incident. Police arrested Shetty on April 14 after tracking his movements and confirming his involvement.
Mohammed Sharif, a resident of K.S. Rao Nagar near Mulki, left home on the morning of April 9 for the autorickshaw park at Kottara Chowki in Mangaluru, but never returned. His son, Naushad, filed a missing persons complaint with Mulki police on April 10.
Investigations revealed that a violent confrontation between Sharif and Shetty escalated into a fatal attack. Shetty then disposed of the body by dumping it into an open well in a secluded area.
Police confirmed that Shetty, who previously worked as a school bus driver, had gone into hiding following the incident but was eventually traced and arrested.
The arrest has brought relief to Sharif’s grieving family, while further investigation continues to establish the full circumstances of the crime.
