Nashik, February 2026: The Saykheda police of Nashik Rural arrested Abhishek Patil (24) of Dwarka, Nashik, for allegedly cheating a woman’s family of Rs 4.5 lakh by promising a police department job.
Patil is accused of posing as the nephew of state Minister Girish Mahajan and claiming he had connections to help secure a government position. Following a complaint from the victim, a 19-year-old resident of Aurangpur in Niphad taluka, the police registered a case under sections 316(2), 319(2), 318(4), 336, and 340 of the BNS, covering criminal breach of trust, cheating by personation, and forgery.
Nashik Rural SP Balasaheb Patil stated that Minister Mahajan informed police about a man misusing his identity to defraud a family. A photograph of the accused sent by the minister helped authorities identify and arrest him.
The complainant revealed that Patil frequently visited her house, claimed ties with MLA Gulabrao Patil and former Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, and convinced her parents to hand over Rs 4.5 lakh to secure the job. Later, he allegedly married the complainant’s elder sister. Police investigations are ongoing.
Authorities warned citizens to verify identities of individuals claiming political or government connections to avoid falling prey to similar scams.
