In a major breakthrough, Indore police have arrested five members of a notorious vehicle theft gang and recovered 34 stolen two-wheelers worth Rs22 lakh. The accused were involved in lifting motorcycles from Indore and Dewas, concealing them in isolated areas, and selling them after tampering with their identity.
Key Accused Identified:
The arrested individuals include:
Abhishek Singh Malviya (Piplarawa, Dewas) – alleged gang leader
Kailash alias Golu Malviya (Manglia)
Rahul Singh Chauhan – specialized in tampering chassis numbers
Anil Singh Pawar
Jitendra – collected orders from local villages
DCP Hansraj Singh stated that the gang learned vehicle theft methods from members of the Kanjar gang in Dewas. They would cut bike wires to start engines and hide the stolen vehicles in parking lots or abandoned buildings until a buyer placed an order.
Rahul handled changing the engine and chassis numbers using specialized tools like gas lighters, grinders, hammers, metal dies, and a labeling machine. Police found three motorcycles already equipped with fake number plates.
Jitendra acted as the link to rural customers, ensuring stolen bikes matched buyer preferences in brand and color.
Recovered bikes were linked to FIRs filed in 19 different police stations across Indore and Dewas. Police are coordinating with the respective jurisdictions for verification and further investigation.
Following a surge in bike theft complaints, a Lasudia police team acted on a tip-off and arrested the gang. The operation has significantly dented the local vehicle theft network, according to authorities.
