Bajpe police have arrested a 23-year-old youth for allegedly posting derogatory and insulting remarks against the police on social media, officials said.
The arrested accused has been identified as Abhishek M., a resident of Katipalla in Surathkal. According to police, Abhishek uploaded a post on an Instagram account named “mr_a_titude 22”, using a photograph of Nisarga Hotel in Bajpe.
In the post, the accused allegedly claimed that suspects involved in a murder case registered under Bajpe police station limits were being provided “royal hospitality” by the police, including daily beef meals sourced from the hotel. The post further accused the police of siding with criminals instead of safeguarding the public and alleged misuse of authority, thereby attempting to bring disrepute to the police department and undermine public trust.
Based on a complaint, Bajpe police registered a case and arrested Abhishek. Police also revealed that the accused has multiple criminal cases registered against him, including his alleged involvement in the Fazil murder case at Mangalapete, as well as cases related to attempt to murder, assault within Surathkal police station limits, and robbery cases registered at Kapu police station.
Following his arrest, Abhishek was handed over to the CEN (Cyber, Economic and Narcotics) police for further investigation and was later produced before the court.
