Two prime accused in the murder of youth Nishad — Abhishek Pandey and his father Himalaya Pandey — surrendered before a civil court in Gorakhpur on Friday. After being on the run since the incident, both were remanded to jail in police custody.
The incident took place on August 23, when Nishad, a resident of Rampur Nayagaon and a building material supplier, went to Abhishek Pandey’s residence in Naya Gaon Bankatwa to demand a pending payment of Rs 50,000. An altercation erupted between them, and Abhishek, his father Himalaya, and several associates allegedly attacked Nishad and his brother-in-law Hemant with iron rods, wooden planks, and other weapons.
Both victims sustained serious injuries, but Nishad succumbed to head injuries during treatment on August 26. The murder triggered violent protests in the area, with mobs pelting stones and injuring several policemen.
Earlier, police arrested another accused, Arjun Pandey of Sahjanwa. Police also intensified pressure on the Pandey family’s second home in Sant Kabir Nagar as part of the ongoing investigation.
