Ludhiana police recently busted an online illegal betting racket and arrested five people for duping individuals via gambling sites. The suspects — Abhinav Garg (24) of Barnala, Om Prakash alias Om (29) of Noida, Amritraj alias Amrit (28) of Nalanda, Vishwajit Singh (36) of Uttar Pradesh, and Rihan Khan (25) of Kushinagar — used popular betting portals like parimatch.com and mostbet.net.in to lure victims into depositing large sums.
Daily funds were collected through fake bank accounts, then transferred overseas in cryptocurrency. Police also seized eight mobile phones, eight SIM cards, two cheque books, a laptop, and a Tata Altroz car linked to the racket.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted that Om Prakash was a key leader who provided bank accounts and managed transactions. They claimed the brains behind the operation were based in Dubai. The arrested have been remanded in custody, and investigations continue to track down more members and bank officials involved.
