The Abdullapurmet police uncovered a major drug trafficking operation on the busy Hyderabad–Nagpur highway by arresting Bhukya Madhu (33), a driver transporting 16.46 kilograms of ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Maharashtra.
On Friday night at around 9:22 pm, Patrol Car-1 of Abdullapurmet police station received a call reporting a car accident near the Nirmala Service Station/Indian Oil petrol pump on NH-65 at Batta Singaram, Abdullapurmet.
Police quickly reached the site and found Madhu, who stated he was traveling from Khammam to Nagpur. Suspicious of his behavior, the officers inspected his car and discovered two plastic bags filled with brown packets between the front and back seats.
Further checks revealed the packets contained 16.46 kg of ganja, which was promptly seized.
During interrogation, Madhu confessed that his friend Sadib from Khammam district had instructed him to transport the ganja from Odisha to Nagpur for profit sharing. Madhu was paid Rs 50,000 to carry out the transport.
Madhu met Sadib in Khanapuram, Khammam on August 13 and was directed to proceed to Gokavaram, Rajahmundry, where he received the ganja packets on August 14. He then began the journey toward Nagpur via Hyderabad.
On August 15, near Batasingaram on NH-65, Madhu crashed into a road divider due to overspeeding, leading to his arrest.
Abdullapurmet police have registered a case and are continuing the investigation. Madhu has been produced before the court.
