In a tragic incident, Jabalpur Police have arrested Abdul Samad, a resident of Nagpur, for the murder of 18-year-old Lakshmi Ahirwar, whose body was discovered on May 9 at Devtal hill in the Gada area.
According to Prasanna Sharma, officer in charge of Gada Police Station, Lakshmi was from Khajuraho in Chhatarpur district and had come to Jabalpur with her brother Manoj Ahirwar and other family members to work on the construction of temples near Devtal Garden. The family had been living in a rented house nearby.
Investigations revealed that Lakshmi had met Abdul Samad while working in Nagpur during December and January. Abdul, also a labourer, reportedly bought her a mobile phone to stay in touch. However, after returning to Jabalpur, Lakshmi stopped communicating with him.
Enraged by the end of their relationship—allegedly influenced by religious differences—Abdul traveled to Jabalpur and stabbed Lakshmi to death in a fit of rage. Police believe Abdul was already familiar with the area, indicating he may have visited previously.
Abdul Samad was arrested and presented before a court, which has since remanded him to jail custody. The investigation is ongoing.
