DOUGLAS COUNTY, Neb. — Aaron Vance, 61, a registered lifetime sex offender, has been arrested for first-degree sexual assault of a minor while working as an ice cream truck driver, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators revealed that Vance, known locally as the “ding ding man,” was connected to a disturbing case involving a 15-year-old victim from a household linked to retired Omaha Police Sergeant Christy Stevens and Kenneth Beams, 40. Both Stevens and Beams were arrested last month on felony charges of child sexual assault and child abuse.
Court documents state that Beams brought Vance to the home near 149th Street and Bauman Avenue to sexually assault the teen, allegedly offering her as currency for methamphetamine. Following the assault, the pair smoked meth in the garage.
Sheriff Aaron Hanson confirmed Vance had been driving his ice cream truck to the residence multiple times and was out on bond from a prior arrest in March for violating sex offender registry requirements.
Vance reportedly tried to avoid surveillance by parking his truck away from cameras, but authorities emphasized the danger posed by offenders exploiting such positions.
“This is terrifying for parents and law enforcement,” Sheriff Hanson said. “We’ve seen sex offenders involved in trafficking and now operating ice cream trucks to victimize juveniles.”
Vance is currently held without bond at Douglas County Corrections. The sheriff’s office is continuing the investigation and considering further charges against Stevens and Beams.
