Kalamboli Police have arrested two men, Aakash Chavan (29) and Jitu Chawla (36), for allegedly stealing diesel from trucks and other heavy vehicles at knife point on the Mumbai-Pune highway.
Authorities seized 175 litres of diesel, a car with a fake number plate, and a knife during the arrest. The accused, both residents of Navi Mumbai, allegedly hired vehicles through online apps and used fake number plates to evade police detection.
Police said the duo targeted trucks and heavy vehicles parked by the roadside, taking advantage of their vulnerability. The operation demonstrates the ongoing efforts of Kalamboli police to crack down on fuel theft and highway crime.
The accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the law, and further investigations are underway to check if they were involved in similar thefts along the highway.
